From Goodreads: "In the realm of the dead, there are no lies.
Hope Nicholas is desperate to believe that the truth will set her free from the bindings of Apollo's curse. But to get the truth, she must travel to the Underworld, a feat near impossible for the living. The gods there have their own agendas and, forced to forge alliances with the most unlikely allies, Hope will find that death is not the worst torment of the Underworld.
Athan Michael spent months chasing Hope, only to have her disappear once again. And when he discovers her destination, he knows the treacherous journey to the Underworld is one he cannot take alone. Forced to put aside his past with Xan and Dahlia, the three demigods embark on their own quest. But the past will not stay buried, and Athan must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice to help Hope break the curse."
Thank you to Raye Wagner for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for review!
Once again, Raye Wagner has written a book that I have flown through far too fast and fell head over heels for. Curse of the Sphinx surprised me with how much I liked it, Demigods and Monsters was even better than the first, and Myths of Immortality is my absolute everything. This is without a doubt my favorite installment in the series, and I'm so excited to see what happens next with Hope!
Myths of Immortality follows Hope as she ventures into the Underworld to try and find answers on how to break Apollo's curse. Little does she know that Athan, Xan, and Dahlia are right behind her, trying to save her. During their journey through the Underworld, all four of them come into contact with various gods that make things much more difficult than they could have wanted. From making deals, to being reunited with loved ones, this is one adventure you won't want to miss.
Can I just say that Hope is one of the best YA characters I've ever read about? She's sassy, smart, and doesn't take crap from anyone- not even gods of the Underworld! There's a common trope that I see YA female main characters fall into quite often, but Hope just completely breaks the mold. She makes it clear time and time again that she can take care of herself, and that she's determined to do whatever it takes to rid herself of the curse. While she does accept help, she doesn't require it, and I absolutely love that about her. She's not a damsel in distress, but rather the hero of her own story, and it's so nice to see a YA female character that can be strong on her own and doesn't rely on others to save her constantly. Hope is a fierce lover and fighter, which is a deadly combination when it comes to fighting for those she loves. Something else that I really appreciated was that she doesn't falter or change, but rather is constantly growing throughout the series to become a better version of herself. She learns new things that allow her to better herself and it's just so refreshing to have a seriously kick-butt female main character. Hope is without a doubt on my top favorite characters of all time list!
The evolution of Raye Wagner's writing from book one to Myths of Immortality is amazing. This entire book is so beautifully written and I was able to easily fall into the world that she has created. All of the characters, even the newly introduced gods that reside in the Underworld, stand out so well among all of the other characters that you've met over the three books in this series. Out of all of the new gods, my favorites have to be Hades and Persephone, simply because of the way that Raye Wagner took their myth and turned it on its head. She has such a unique way of writing about this world that draws you in and makes you never want to leave. From the beautiful writing to the addicting plot and lovable characters, this book is one that you'll devour in one sitting and find yourself immediately reaching for the next one! But the next one isn't out yet so you have to wait with the rest of us.
The plot of this story is so intense and incredibly action packed. With each turn of the page, whether you're reading about Hope or Athan, Xan, and Dahlia, there is always something happening. With Hope on her journey through the Underworld to try and find a way to break her curse, she definitely catches the attention of some of the gods down there, which makes things much more interesting. Athan, Xan, and Dahlia also come into contact with some of the less friendly (if it's even possible for Underworld gods to be friendly?) gods as they try to find Hope, and their side of the story is very intense. I really loved that there was never a dull moment or a lull in the story, that there was always something happening. The plot was furthered even more with this installment, and we finally get to learn more about some of the gods and what is happening within their circle, as well as information regarding Apollo's curse that perfectly sets up the next book. From start to finish, I found myself absolutely flying through the pages laughing, crying, and worrying about this group of demigods and a "monster" that I've come to know and love so quickly. Without a doubt, Myths of Immortality is my favorite book in the series thus far. Of course, that may change when the next book is released!
All in all, Myths of Immortality is an incredible continuation to the Sphinx series and one that you definitely don't want to miss. It has writing that will hook you from page one and leave you breathless by the end, a plot line that will excite and delight, and characters that will take you on an emotional roller coaster. Be sure to pick up a copy when it releases on 12 January 2017 and continue on with Hope's story to save herself from the curse of Apollo!
