"After all, in a theme park where real zombies, werewolves, and vampires are the main attractions, what could possibly go wrong?" If the title didn't catch my interest with this book, then the final line of the synopsis did. This was such an entertaining read and it definitely put me in the Halloween spirit!

Plot:
The world markets have been destroyed by a plague that have turned the infected people into zombie-like creatures. Vincent Konrad, billionaire businessman and philanthropist, has stepped in and decided to place the monsters into a theme park to help promote tolerance and education towards the creatures, and Copper Valley has been chosen as the primary site for the park in the United States. High school senior Wyatt is dying to go to the park grand opening, and when he lands special passes to the park, he and his friends are expecting the experience of a lifetime. And with a theme park filled with zombies, vampires, and werewolves, they're going to have an absolutely killer time.

This book was great! I had such a fun time reading about a world where these monsters were basically just out and about in the world. And the idea of putting zombies, vampires, and werewolves into a theme park just absolutely sold me on the plot of this book. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, right? I really enjoyed how information was delivered through several characters, and not all of them human. Readers got to see from the point of view of all three monsters, giving insight into how each lives and what their experience at Monsterland has been- and how it's not what it appeared to be on the surface. While I normally don't enjoy multiple points of view in a book, Monsterland provided a unique experience with its point of view changes and it was definitely a nice change and added to my overall enjoyment of the book. Everything unfolded at a great pace and while you could really see the way that the story was going, it was still a fun experience getting to that point. There were some things that happened towards the end that, even though you (again) could kind of see it coming, was still tied in nicely and kind of brought the story full circle and explained something that's mentioned once or twice earlier on. This was just an all around fun read that I would definitely recommend to fans of monsters, theme parks, and inevitable disasters!

Characters:
I stated above that this book has multiple points of view throughout the story and I believe that is a huge plus for Monsterland! While I'm generally not a fan of more than one point of view, I really enjoyed getting to read bits and pieces from the three different monsters view points. I feel it really added to the story getting to see not only how they were living in the world but also their experience in Monsterland. It allowed the reader to see things from another side and (at least in my case) sympathize with what the creatures were going through. It was certainly something I wasn't expecting, but it was an aspect of the book that I surprisingly enjoyed!

Outside of the monsters, the human characters were also pretty fun to follow. I liked Carter and Wyatt being on two opposite sides of how they felt about Konrad because it gave the reader something to think about. Just why do each of these characters feel the way they do about this guy and which one is right? Watching things unravel from their points of view was also interesting because each of their experiences in Monsterland was different meaning they were each having to deal with different things. I think all of the characters in this book were all very well written and came together to make an exciting book that is perfect for both adults and young adults to read!

Writing:
The writing in Monsterland was very well done. Michael Okon did a great job bringing all of the characters, both human and monster, to life and creating a world that was genuinely fun to read about. This book is definitely one that readers of all ages are sure to enjoy despite this being listed as a Young Adult book. It's descriptive enough that it brings you into the world without going overboard and you're easily able to picture everything that goes on while reading. The writing itself was very easy to follow and really added to the overall experience that is Monsterland. The author did a fantastic job bringing all of the characters to life and really allowing readers to experience Monsterland in all its glory, as well as its horror.

This was the perfect book to read at any point in the year, but especially during the creepy Halloween season! It had great characters, some spooky monsters, easy and fun to read writing, and a plot that's exciting to follow from start to finish. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quick and fun read to wrap up the Halloween season!
